Apple Music®, the streaming service and application, is fully integrated and available to all
Control4 customers with an active or new 4Sight® subscription.* You can add Apple Music using a Control4 Touchscreen or the Control4 app for Android or iOS.

We are delighted to announce that Apple Music™ is officially integrated and streaming! Control4’s implementation of Apple Music was developed, rigorously tested, and validated to ensure seamless integration with Apple’s officially published Software Development Kits (SDKs) and Application Programming Interfaces (APIs).

To use Apple Music, the following are required:

• CORE (5/3/1/lite) Controller or Triad SA1
• Control4 OS 3.4.2+
• Active Connect plan or 4Sight subscription
• Apple Music subscription (customers have the option to create a new Apple Music account during the setup process)

To set up Apple Music on your Control4 system:

1. Using a touchscreen or the Control4 app, go to “Listen” and select “Manage Music.”**
2. Tap on “Apple Music” and then tap “Add New.”
3. If needed, rename the service. This can be helpful if you plan to integrate more than one Apple Music account.
4. Select the room or rooms where this Apple Music account should be accessible.

Apple Music is available to Control4 Connect customers demonstrating our first step as we continue to add new features and functionality and improve customer satisfaction. A key advantage of Connect is its capacity to evolve by incorporating new features over time. A Connect plan also enables the Control4 app for Android and iOS, Including Apple Watch, with remote access, push notifications and alerts, Intercom Anywhere, integration with Alexa and Google Voice, and many other features.

To fulfill this much-anticipated and long requested integration, we are pleased to announce that we are extending Apple Music access to all new and legacy customers with an active 4Sight license, as well.

CLOUD SERVICES REQUIREMENT

Apple Music streaming content is protected by DRM, and charges a licensing fee to decrypt that stream. A portion of the Connect or 4Sight license subscription will go towards offsetting those fees from Apple.

CORE CONTROLLER/TRIAD SA1 REQUIREMENT

Live decryption of Apple’s DRM in real time can be processor intensive, especially for multiple simultaneous streams. The newer components in CORE and the SA1 have the processing power necessary to decrypt at that speed, but the EA Controllers and the Triad One could not.

ONE STREAM PER DRIVER/ACCOUNT

Apple Music content is protected by DRM, and only one stream is allowed at a time per account across all devices. In order to play multiple simultaneous, independent streams, each one would have to be streamed by a unique Apple account.

FAVORITING AND RECENTLY PLAYED

Each of the Apple Music menu items (Charts, Stations, Recommendations, History, Library) as well as all of the content (playlists, mixes, albums, podcasts, tracks, etc) can be Favorited to the Room View with a press-and-hold. If the Recently Played agent is enabled, recent Apple Music media can be easily selected from the history slider at the top of the Listen Page.

ROOM CONTROL DRIVER/WAKEUP SCENES

Through the UI, customers can browse for music based on the Charts, Stations, Recommendations, History and Library. However, that level of browsing complexity prevents Apple Music from returning a usable list for the Room Control Driver’s Preset Cycler and for the Wakeup. However, Apple Music content can be programmed to the Room Control’s presets, and programmed to execute with a Wakeup scene.
